The Emergency Medical Information Book (EMIB) is a great community service project from Bundaberg Lions Club.
The EMIB is Nationally recognised by Ambulance Authorities in Australia and New Zealand. EMIB continues to save many lives as it has done for more than 18 years
The ‘Emergency Medical Information Book’ contains all your information and medical records which are needed if an ambulance is called and you need to be transported to a hospital.
When paramedics are called, a typical scenario is that distraught family members may be unable to give correct details of the patient’s condition, or the medication they may be taking. The paramedics physically have to collect all the patients medication in the house, try to obtain a medical history and take all to the hospital with the patient. This small book contains patient contacts, service or carer provider information, medications list and current medical conditions, so a paramedic is able to treat and ready a patient for transport to a hospital.
Who should have one of these books?
All people, adults and children who take medications or have a medical condition’ should have a book, especially elderly people living on their own. Each book has a clear plastic sleeve with strip magnets and is placed on the fridge door once the book has been filled out by the owner (patient) together with their doctor.
A second EMIB left in your car or to take with you while travelling is also becoming a popular choice.
Bundaberg Lions Club has decided to launch the life saving EMIB into the Bundaberg community. The Emergency Medical Information Book. This has been a long standing project of Lions and Rotary Clubs Australia wide and has saved lives. The EMIB also has a pocket version for your wallet. The EMIB needs to be filled in with your medical information and needs to be placed for easy access. It has magnets ready for the fridge door. Our first two roll outs of EMIB have been to Bolton Clarke retirement village with the booklet and Bundaberg Special School with the pocket edition. We aim to expand this project to reach as many in the community as possible.
We are not using this as a fund-raising project but we are trying to run the project at cost price. Generally, we ask a donation of $2 a book if possible. It may be the best $2 anyone has donated as the EMIB has a proven record of saving life. We have also noted that many people are now using two books one at home always on the fridge and the other to travel with.
